:: CRIMSON FALLS – BIGGEST INFLUENCES #2: Youri (drums) ::

After Wim’s hotlist, now our drummer Youri presents you his 10 favourite and most inspiring songs of all time! Almost that is; unfortunately there’s hardly any fuckin’ CANNIBAL CORPSE on Spotify. But we guess Suffocation, Aborted & some others will bang your heads as well!

CF – BIGGEST INFLUENCES #2: Youri (drums)

Some words from Youri about his choices & how these drummers inspired him to beat the drums himself:

1. SUFFOCATION – BREEDING THE SPAWN
What I like so much about this band is their approach towards death-metal-riffing. So unique, complex and heavy. This song contains some of the heaviest riffs in the whole metal-scene!

2. ABORTED – THE SAW AND THE CARNAGE DONE
What can I say… I witnessed the beginning of this band and was for some time a part of it. After this they blew me away with every recording they did. To enrol Dirk Verbeuren as their guest-drummer was the best thing they did for their career.

3. CHIMAIRA – PURE HATRED
The first time I heard some of Andols’ double-bass patterns I was shocked! I got on his forum and he gave me a link to a guy who was teaching this special kind of bass drum-technique. That’s the one I am using now….THANX ANDOLS!!!

4. DREAM THEATER – HOME
Mike Portnoy will always be an inspiration for me. I have some of his influences incorporated into my style thanks to his instructional DVDs.

5. DIMMU BORGIR – BLESSINGS UPON THE THRONE OF TYRANNY
Good drumming, good song, nice melodies, cool riffs… Perfect!

6. PRIMUS – JERRY WAS A RACECAR DRIVER
Oooh Yeeaaaah…funky shit. Best combination of funk, metal and humor!

7. JETHRO TULL – THE MINSTRELL IN THE GALLERY
Very progressive band from the sixties/seventies. A beautiful combination of folk, pop and metal. Nice songs with some crazy, odd-time-drumming.

8. DARKTHRONE – GROMLECH
Aaahh; back in the time that Darkthrone was still playing Swedish Death Metal! At that time Fenris was a very inspiring, technical drummer. Good timing, special kind of phrasing and here and there some bells over his lines to make it perfect. Fenris made me look towards metal drumming in a musically way instead of just rhythmical.

9. EMPEROR – INTO THE INFINITY OF THOUGHTS
This is the first song of their epic debut album “In The Nightside Eclipse”. This album is still one of my favourite albums of all time!

10. DYING FETUS – KILLING ON ADRENALINE
What I love so much about this band is the combination of hardcore with technical deathmetal-riffs. Love it or hate it!
